On this International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the Ombudsman reaffirms its commitment to preventing torture and inhuman and degrading treatment through its independent monitoring of places of detention.

The prohibition of torture is absolute and admits of no exceptions.

Prevention is the best form of protection.
